Now to Him who
is able to keep you from stumbling,
And to present
you faultless
Before the
presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
To God our
Saviour,
Who alone is
wise,
Be glory and
majesty,
Dominion and
power,
Both now and
forever.
Amen. – Jude 24-25
This is one of the beautiful
doxologies of all of scripture and it is neatly tucked away here in the little
book of Jude. After writing about the dangers if false teachers and warnings to
us and a challenge he writes just a few wonderful words of praise.
He alone is wise and He
alone is wisdom. We read in 1 Corinthians that the wisdom of men is foolishness
with God. The fear of the Lord is the very foundation of true wisdom.
To Him alone be glory and
majesty. All kind of things can get glory and majesty in our lives. We can
glorify sports team or nations or people in our lives. So much can be elevated
above God if we are not careful.
There is nothing wrong with
love of country or supporting a sports team if it is kep in the balance, but to
often we know the songs of patriotism and the stadium crowd than we do the things
that glorify. We dress in our team’s colours and carry its banners proudly. We
fly our flags and high and give them honour sometimes more than we do the Lord.
Who do we glorify more? Who
are we most proud of? Who are we most ashamed of?
To Him alone be glory and majesty.
All the rest is peripheral.
