and delivered
righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that
righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to
day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)— 2
Peter 2.7-8
God delivered righteous Lot.
Righteous Lot?
What? Wait a sec, righteous
Lot? The guy or offered to give up his daughters to the mob? The guy who had to
be dragged out of the city? The guy was wife was turned to a pillar of salt for
looking back to Sodom?
Righteous Lot?
Nobody watching Lot would
ever have guessed that he was righteous. He looked to Sodom, he moved to Sodom,
and then he sat among the leaders of the city. He was totally absorbed and
eventually he offered up his daughters to placate the sexual desires of the men
of the city.
The lesson here is that no
matter how hard we try we cannot tell who is saved and who is not. Lot lingered
in Sodom vexed by the sins of Sodom. He was tormented and eventually God had to
drag him out.
Let’s pray for vexed
righteous Lots in our lives. Let’s pray that they come to their senses and walk
away for the things that vex them. We don’t know who they are, but God does.
