Enough of that nonsense

For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. – 1 Peter 4.3-5

Peter is telling us here that it is time to stop playing games. It was time to stop the worldly walk and their fleshly behaviour. He said before Christ we walked in wilderness and lusts and drunkenness and wild parties and all kind of idolatry.

Now, we are, or should be different. Because of the change in our lives people think it is weird that we don’t do those things any more. Because we don’t do those things anymore, they speak evil of us. Holiness always makes people a little uncomfortable.

The truth is that it is time for us to give up that nonsense because we don’t have time for it. As the end gets closer we are to be redeeming the time. We don’t know how much time we have left. Jesus may come today. We not have time for all that carry on.

As we travel through this world we need to stay on track. Like Christian in Pilgrim’s Progress we are always going to be drawn by the temptations of Vanity Fair. We have spent far too much time there already. It makes no difference what they think about us.
