Like a roaring lion

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. – 1 Peter 5.8-9

It’s interesting that this verse follows right on the verse about ‘casting all your cares on Him’ and the pride that prevents us from doing that. In the same context Peter writes that we need to be aware of these things because Satan is walking about seeking whom he may devour and pride is just the thing he could use to do it.

We must resist him. We must stay steadfast in the faith. We must remember that the whole world suffers the attacks of the devil and so much of the world suffers so much more than we. We are not alone in being attacked. He looks for us in our times of weakness to try and devour use and the key way he can do that it to try and convicted us that we can do a better job than God so we went cast our cares on Him and instead try to bear them ourselves.

We can’t let down our guard. We must always be vigilant. If he keeps from casting my cares on Jesus I am going to be powerless. Its time to be sober and vigilant resisting and strong in the faith.
