To bring us to God

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, - 1 Peter 3.18

Wow! What a verse. The theology packed here is astoundingly deep, but the blessings are even deeper.

Christ suffered once for OUR sins

The just Jesus died for the unjust Roger

He did all this to bring us to God

He was put to death in the flesh to give life in the spirit

This reads so simply that we might miss the mind boggling reality.

The perfectly just Jesus with no flaw and no sin and no offence died for me who is totally unjust and totally flawed and sinful and offence in order to bring me to God.

He did this once and the job was done. Nothing else could be done. It was, as He said, finished. The path to God had been opened once and forever. The just had paid the price for so that the unjust could become just and come to God. We could not atone for our sins so Jesus the Just did.

Praise God that He made a way to God. That is the marvellous news that we can share with the world. That’s our task. Let us show them the way the way to God.
