Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. - 1 Peter 4:1-2
Since Christ suffered for us
we are to arm ourselves with the same mindset.
We should turn away from sin and not strive for the lusts of the flesh
but we should strive for the will of God in our lives.
The lust of the flesh and the
will of God. Could not be more divergent paths. When Jesus was in the garden He
prayed that He would be released from the agony of the cross. But He put a big
disclaimer on it – let Your will, not mine, be done.
That attitude ought to
control our hearts as well. It is fine to pray, even to pray for things things,
but we must pray and seek and pursue the will of God. The will of God is always
best, even when we can’t understand it. He is all knowing and He is sovereign
and His will and His way is always best for us.
What is more important to
you and me? Our way or His way?
We ought to live not based on our own desires but on what God wants for us.
