The Lord knows His own

then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord. – 2 Peter 2.9-11

These few verses have been fascinating. They deal with the fact that only God knows who are who are not His.

It ties in with the discussion about Christians forgetting who they are and God delivering righteousness Lot and how it is really not up to us to decide who we think is and who we think is not truly saved.

The truth is that we really don’t know. It is also true when we make that judgement, we are claiming knowledge that only God really knows.

I have family and friends that I am concerned about. They have made professions of faith and seemed to be Christian and lived for Him, but after time they have just drifted away/ I have two friends here who have told be about their lives and how they have done the same thing. None of these people are living wicked vile lives, they are just getting along seemingly without God.

Were the ever truly saved? From what we have just read we can never really know. There are people who are God’s, but don’t remember that they are His and just get on with their lives. Some are like righteous Lot who are lingering their own Sadoms and can’t seem to break free.

But there us not much I can do except love them and pray for them and trust that God indeed know who are His and who are not and that He is able to sort all this out.
