knowing this
first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own
lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers
fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”
For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of
old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world
that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the
earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the
day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. – 2
Peter 3.3-7
In the last days, our days,
scoffers pop up scoffing at God and mocking Him and saying ‘when is He coming
back? Nothing has changed in the world and it just keeps going on and going on.
These folks choose to ignore
the fact that God created all things by the word of His power. I think that is
why the concept of God’s creation is under assault. If they can find a way to
ignore God they can, they think, free themselves from guilt. The easiest way to
forget about God is just to paint Him out of the picture. Then they think they
can scoff without fear.
What can we do? All we can
do is try to keep shining our light and love others to help them overcome their
reluctance to acknowledge Him.
It is at the stage where
virtually no one accepts creation. To do so would force them to accept God. To
accept God would that we are not in control. So they laugh and mock and scoff.
But the day is coming when
God is going to act. The waiting we are doing is the result of God’s patience
with man.
