But, beloved,
do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand
years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His
promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing
that any should perish but that all should come to repentance – 2 Peter 3.8-9
God is so good to keep
reminding us of His faithfulness and patience and long-suffering in waiting for
men to turn to Him. Days or years or thousand years mean nothing to Him. He
will act in His time and will. He is not willing that any should perish but He
wants everyone to be saved.
So God acts in His
long-suffering. He delays His coming in judgement to give more people a chance
to be saved. He is not slack. He is not late. He is going to act in His perfect
time because He desire is that everyone will be saved.
I like this notion that God
is not slack concerning His promise of salvation. God fervently wants everyone
to come to Him. Therefore He gives us a chance and patiently waits for those
who come to Him. He waits even through
the Tribulation giving chance after chance the world to be saved. He tells
readers of Revelation today that they need to be saved so that they can escape the
horrible judgements.
Human time-frames don’t come
in to play, a thousand years, a day, it makes no difference God will work in
His time to give every chance to come to Him.
