Looking for

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. – 2 Peter 3.10-13

As wait for Jesus to come back it is to be a waiting with eager anticipation. This world is a mess, but we have a new world coming eventually. We are to looking for that day and hastening it in with living our lives for Him.

Some folks have been critical of what they call the ‘rapture theory.’ They say that it makes Christians lazy as though we are just going to kick back and take it easy and wait for Jesus to come while we do nothing here on earth.

That’s exactly the opposite to our true goal as we look forward to Jesus’ return. His return, as we see in the next verse, should drive us to diligence. There is no better to motivate us to look to the book of Revelation to see why salvation is so pressing.

Our time is short to share with others. Jesus is coming. We don’t have time to be waste time. Every moment must be lived as though He were coming back today. Every day must be spent loving God and loving others. Every day must be spent in holy conduct and godliness.

Work while it is day, for the night is coming when the word will be done.
