You shall be witnesses

And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” – Acts 1.7-8

As we move from the accounts of Jesus life and earthly ministry to the beginning of the church we see that the focus for the church ends the same way that the gospels ended. Luke tells us that what he is giving us is simply an account of what happens after Jesus leaves and His disicples remain.

Acts starts with one more address from Jesus. His farewell address gives us his final charge to the disciples and to us. When the Holy Spirit comes you will have power, that destroys our arguement that we can’t do it, and we will be witnesses from the nearest place to the furthest.

How much power do we have? Jesus already answered that. He said that ALL power was given to Him and that He will go with us as we have go into the world. With Jesus by my side how can I claim to be powerless? We indeed can’t do anything without Him, but with Him we can be His witnesses.
