After the resurrection Jesus had to make sure that His followers realised what they had to do. He was leaving and there was still a lot to be done. Their divine commission had to be delineated.
‘Just like the Father sent Me I am sending you.’
Talk about a divine commission! Our charge to go into all the world and preach the gospel is not one we can take lightly. It was serious enough for God the Father to send His Son to earth to die for our sins. It was serious enough for Jesus to veil His deity and take on the shape of a man in the from of a servant and be obedient all the way to the cross. It was serious enough for God the Holy Spirit to come to earth ti indwell and comfort and help and encourage believers.
That’s how big a deal this is. Our call to go involves all that Jesus. It involves serving and laying aside our own wills and our won desires to share the gospel with the world. It involves obedience to the point of death if that is what God calls us to do. It means that is what drives us. It means that is the ultimate goal of all we say and do. As Jesus laid aside His majesty we lay aside all of our own self-glory. As His love drove Him to sacrifice His life so our love should drive us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice.
How seriously do we take our call?
