It must have been obvious, even to the disciples who could be so thick sometimes, that something big was about to happen. Jesus was talking a lot about leaving and how they couldn’t go with Him and such. Jesus knew they were anxious and so gave them some great words of comfort.
Let not your heart be troubled…I go to prepare a place for you…I will come again for you.
And in that lies our hope and our comfort. We still await His return. The disciples and beleivers since then have gone to the place that Jesus has prepared. We earnestly away His coming.
But we can all rest assured though in the words that there is a place after this prepared for us. This broken world does not give us much hope. There is no rest and not much comfort here. Our hope is in the world to come when we have finished our travail in this old world.
As we get older the reality of that place becomes more precious. Thank God for that hope.
