We will not fear

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” - Psalms 46v1-3

“We will not fear” is a nice sounding motto. It all sounds well and good and it even makes a nice song. However, it is one of those things that can preach easier than it practices.

How do we “not fear” when it seems like the world is going to pieces around us? The psalmist knew the feeling and he uses the imagery of an earthquake to clearly illustrate the feeling that we all are familiar with.

We find the ability to “not fear” in such words as, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,” “perfect love casts out fear,” “God has not given is a spirit of fear…”, “what time I am afraid I will trust in You.”

Like everything else faith is fear conquering. If we truly trust God we will not fear, even when it seems like the world is falling apart around us.
