Count your blessings

“Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to usward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” - Psalms 40v5

One of my favourite hymns is “Count Your Blessings.” Sometimes when we sing that song we break in between verses to name some blessings that God has given us. It is a fun way to remind ourselves of His blessings to us.

When we do that however we are only able to touch on a few things that he has accomplished for us. As David says in Psalm 40v5 “they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee.” In today’s English we would say, “I can’t even list and tick off your wonderful works and your thoughts toward me. There are more than I can possibly count.

Do we have that kind of attitude towards God’s blessings? Do we always remember that He has done more for us than we can possibly imagine. It would be interesting sometime to try it and see what happened. Every breath we take and every time our hearts beat are reminders that God gives us more than we can count.

Isn’t that a great motivation to live a life of gratitude to Him?
