Some trust in chariots

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.”
- Psalms 20v7

People put their trust in all kinds of things. Some trust in their bank accounts or their personal possessions. Some trust in their houses or lands. Some trust in their intelligence or college degrees. Some trust in their own wisdom or their physical strength. Some trust in the might of their nation, and some put their trust in the numbers of guns or weapons they own.

The psalmist knew where to put his trust – “…we will remember the name of the lord our God.” Nothing is worthy of our trust other than Him. In the next verse he gives the result of putting faith in chariots or putting faith in Him – “They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.”

What chariots are we trusting in today? Every one of them will let us down, without exception. When we put our trust only in the Lord we will rise up and stand upright.

Isn’t it time to stop putting our faith in our various chariots and to start putting our faith unreservedly in Him?
