A horse is a vain thing for safety

“A horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.”
- Psalms 33v17

Everyone likes to have a safety net. In the days of the psalmist people and nations put their confidence and faith in the size of their armies as determined by the number of horses they had. People are no different today. We no longer trust in horses – today we trust in bank accounts, possessions, friends, and even our church.

All of these things are vain. Nothing is strong enough to deliver other than the Lord. We need to ask ourselves what “horses” we are trusting in today. “Vanity of vanities all is vanity sayeth the preacher.” If we could only learn the lesson of trusting in the Lord instead of our horses.
