Delighting in God’s way

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” - Psalms 37v23

The steps of a good man are laid down by the Lord and the good man takes joy in walking in those steps. Not only are we told that God has a path for us to walk, we are also told that the good man is going to take delight in walking in those steps.

Was does it mean to delight in the steps God lays down? It means that we take absolute joy in doing what God wants us to do. It is tempting to walk in God’s steps, but do grudgingly, with almost a martyr’s complex. This is not the kind of service in which God takes delight. He is delighted with us when we are delighted serving Him.

The steps He lays down are always perfect. We ought to be able to take each and every one of those steps in sheer delight that we are walking exactly the way that God has planned. That means that we delight in the lows as well as the highs.

Can we honestly say that we delight to do God’s will? The good man or woman will do so, do we fit this description of the good man?
