The righteous shall be glad

The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in Him.
And all the upright in heart shall glory. – Psalm 64.10

Everyone likes to be glad. People will so all sorts of things to find gladness, but it seems like most of our pursuits of gladness fall short of producing true gladness. It is too easy to base our gladness on our circumstances or situations instead of what is eternal.

But it is only in eternal gladness that we can really find satisfaction. Gladness in temporal things is obviously not going to last forever.

But if we base our gladness on serving and pleasing God then the earthly things will pale in comparison.

True gladness is for the righteous. True gladness came at salvation when the righteousness of Christ was imputed to me and my eternity was secured. True gladness comes as I seek the righteousness in Christ in my daily life. True and complete and unfettered gladness will one day be mine when I spend eternity with Christ.

‘Rejoice, and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in heaven’ is God’s promise for the righteous.

Real gladness, lasting gladness, eternal gladness only comes in righteousness.
