Awesome to the kings

Make vows to the Lord your God, and pay them;

Let all who are around Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared.

He shall cut off the spirit of princes;

He is awesome to the kings of the earth. – Psalm 76.11-12

There have been a lot of seemingly all powerful world leaders in history. There a leaders who built great nations and empires. Many of the most powerful have been dictators who have not had to worry about right and wrong and decency. We have had our Neros and Napoleons and Hitlers and Stalins and Pol Pots and other who seemed to thing they were invincible. But, when it is all said and done, they failed and their empires collapsed.

But there is One who is always awesome. There is One who always inspires awe. The Lord deals with all of these human leaders who think they are mighty. They think they cannot be beaten, but there is an awesome God who rules over them.

God is awesome to all of the kings and presidents and prime ministers and premiers and potentates of the world. They may not recognise Him but that does not diminish His awesomeness.

When we get troubled about what is going on in the political world we need to remember that leader still must deal with our awesome God.
