Come to me

Incline your ear, and come to Me.
Hear, and your soul shall live;
And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—
The sure mercies of David. – Isaiah 55.3

Come to Me.

Those words seem so simple, but in this context there are no more precious words.

At the beginning God and man were companions. There was nothing between them. They had regular and open communication. God met them in the Garden in the coolness of the evening to fellowship with Him.

But one day that changed. Adam and Eve sinned and they did not show up. God said ‘where are you?’ but they were ashamed because of their sin and because of their nakedness and they hid from Him.

And yet, despite all of that, we still find God offering ‘come to Me.’ God, who is rich in mercy, would have all men repent and turn back to Him. Though the mystery of the gospel is still veiled here we see that God does want His people to come to Him. This truth was made clear in Christ.

‘Come to me, all you who are weary and and burdened, and I will give you rest….For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’

A world of sinners walks away from Jesus every day – but He still calls out ‘come to me.’

The whole thing reminds me of the story of the prodigal and his father. While the prodigal was away wasting his life and wandering in all sorts of wickedness his broken hearted father waited for him to come home. And when he did decide to come the father put everything aside and ran to meet him.

God is calling out to a seeking world today saying ‘come to me.’ Lets be sure the world knows about that call.
