The Overcoming Lamb

These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. – Revelation 17.14

It kind of sounds strange to think of an overcoming lamb. Lambs must be among the most defenceless creatures in God’s creation. They have no big teeth or bulk or claws or horns. The don’t have a venomous bite. We would be had pressed to find an animal a lamb could overcome in a fight.

And here we read of a lamb who overcame ten mighty kings who made war against Him. How can that make any sense?

I think the illustration of a lamb was used just because it makes no human sense. The Lamb is also the Lord of lords and the King of kings and His saints, those with Him, are the called and the chosen and the faithful.

Right now that it seems like Jesus has adopted the role of the meek and quiet Lamb. It seems like the bad guys are winning and it seems like the called and the chosen and the faithful are being overcome.

That may be how it seems – but the Lamb is the Lord of lords and He is the King of kings and one day He is going to step up and be the Overcomer.

And we get to overcome with Him.

Praise God for the overcoming Lamb of God.
