He is able

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. – Jude 1.24-25

Kids love to sing and I love to hear them sing. If you ask our grandson Wil what song he wants to sing is is almost sure to say ‘sable.’

‘Sable’ is the old children’s chorus “He is able.’ It is a nice little peppy chorus that goes in part like this.

He is able
He is able
I know He is able
I know my Lord is able to carry me through

And the wonderful thing is that even though it is ‘just’ a children’s chorus it hold a great theological truth. The only wise God, our Saviour is due all glory and majesty and dominion and power both now and forever. That wonderful God is able to carry me through this life because I am His and He is mine.

If it were up to me to keep me from falling away I would surely fail. I can hardly keep myself for a few hours without falling away so I certainly could not do it for the rest of my life. If it were up to me and I had to stand before God it would be with great sorrow and pain and remorse and certainly not with great joy. I would always fall short.

But my Saviour is able to carry me though and because He carries me though when I stand in the presence of God it will be with great joy because I will stand there in Christ.

I know my Lord is able to carry me through!
