The everlasting gospel

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, - Revelation 14.6

Everything changes. Nothing stays the same. It is a whole different world than it was when I made my inauspicious entrance 60 years ago. In the midst of all this change it is good to know that some things are stable.

This verse takes place some time in the future. I honestly could not tell you when – but it is the future and in that future there are two things that stay the same.

First is the ‘everlasting gospel.’ The gospel is the same gospel it was all those years ago. It is the gospel that Jesus, the perfect Son of God, was crucified, dead, and buried. But that is not all – He conquered death through His glorious resurrection. The gospel message is the same in 2015 as it was in Jesus’ day and the everlasting gospel is not going to change no matter how good or how bad things get.

Another thing that has not changed is the need to preach it it every nation, and family, and language, and people. Jesus told the disciples of the need to preach the gospel to Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth. That need to preach the everlasting gospel is as real now as it was then and as it will be in the future.

We have an everlasting gospel. We have an everlasting need to share it with and everlasting needy people. Let’s just stay at it.
