Judgement

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. – Revelation 20.11-15

One day all this mess is going to be over. I am student of history so I know that the evil we see today is nothing new. It has been then since the very start and murder has been around since Cain killed his brother. It doesn’t take much study to realise that man is now and always has been capable of unbelievable horrors. Every attempt at establishing some type of utopia has failed because man is a sinner and eventually someone is going to break that utopia.

I realise that we are often accused of using our faith as an escape from reality. Some say that we would rather look forward than deal with the present. Of course true believers are always aware of the present and see to do the best we can for God and other people while we are here, but I admit that I am looking forward to the day when God is going to sort it all out

One day God is going to sit on His throne as judge. Those who have rejected God will be called into His perfect judgement. God is going to examine all their works and all their works are going to be found lacking and only one standard is going to matter – are their names in the book of life.

I know my works could never pass muster because I know me and my thoughts and attitudes and actions. I know I would fail at the judgement as well.

But praise God I am in the book of life and my eternity is secure. My task is to lead others to the book of life as well.
