The Lord comes

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. – Jude 1.14-15

I had to go back and address this verse before I move on to the book of Revelation since that books picks up on this theme.

‘Behold, the Lord is coming…’ That is a truth that the church has counted since the very last words recorded in the New Testament when John wrote ‘even so, come Lord Jesus.’ In fact, it started even before then when the angels told the disciples to get to work because Jesus was coming again.

This is an exciting prospect! The problem is that it is so exciting that some folks spend so much time trying to figure it out that we don’t get a whole lot done. Folks are looking at signs of what might be indications that Jesus is coming back. Could this guy be the Antichrist? Could this be the mark of the beast?

Judgement is coming. Jesus is coming back to set up His kingdom. But in the meantime we can’t be like the disciples gazing longingly up to heaven. We need to be busy. When Paul wrote to the Thessalonians he told them not to worry about signs and wonders but he told them ‘But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.’

Jesus is coming again, amen! But we have a lot to do while we are waiting.
