My God reigns

And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. - Revelation 19.6-7

It is easy to forget while we are here in the midst of all the trials and struggles of the world who is ultimately in control. From our perspective it seems that things are hopeless because it looks like this world is so powerful.

That’s why we need a reminder like this – the Lord God omnipotent reins.

We might not always see that. We might even be tempted to wonder if He really is all powerful and He really does reign why such rotten stuff happens. Why does a gunman walk into a Bible study and kill nine Christians. Why poverty and violence and natural disasters?

The problem is that we don’t understand how God reigns because He is God and we are never going to understand His ways and His thoughts.

I do know this – we live in a broken and sin-cursed world. We live amongst broken people and we live in a world which has been broken by man’s sin.

But God does reign. He could have simply wiped out the entire human race and started again. We are not robots forced to conform to God’s ways.

I may not always get it, but the Lord God Omnipotent does reign. He is still on the throne. He is always just. He is always just. He loves me. He is good.

And the day is coming when His reign will subdue and the evil and wickedness and brokenness. What a day that will be.
