Kings and priests

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. – Revelation 1.5-6

A lot of people have real issues with self image. While I think we can carry that to an extreme and while I think we need to be careful to remember humility and all that we should never have to worry about our worth or our value.

Why?

Because Jesus has made us kings and priests unto God. Chances are that nobody I know is ever going to have a book written about them. We are not going to be the subject of a blockbuster film. We are never going to draw thousands when we speak. We may never be well known. Our circle of influence may never extend beyond a handful of people. We may be common labourers or janitors who toilet cleaners or burger flippers or may be corporate executives business leaders or whatever.

No matter what we end up doing what really matter is that in the eyes of God we are already kings and priests.  That is a great leveller. Here on earth people judge us by who we are and what we do and how we look and how much stuff we have. We can’t change that.

But in heaven we are already kings and priests in God sight.

God has called me a king and a priest. How can I get down on myself when that is how God sees me? I can’t even let Satan make me believe that I am worthless because in Christ I am priest and king.

Does my life reflect my real status before God? Do I conduct myself as a heavenly king and a heavenly priest?
