Because you
say, I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know
that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked – Revelation 3.17
There is A LOT of seeming
wealth in churches in some parts of the world today. I’ve been in some churches
where seeming wealth is obvious. The car parks are full of the newest and best cars,
the churches are elegantly decorated, they have the most fancy audio visual
systems and pastors are paid six figure salaries.
People are quite naturally
drawn to that. It’s lovely to go someplace that is perfectly temperature
moderated where everything is clean and spotless and smells nice and there is a
beautiful meeting room and you can even pick up your Starbucks before the service.
There are things going on all week and if you want you never really have to
deal with world.
I’m not saying that is all
bad, the problem comes when think that makes us successful and a mark that God
if blessing us.
All those things are lovely,
but they are no indication of real wealth. In fact, if that is our focus we are
instead wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.
Those are pretty harsh
words.
The truth us though is that
it really nails the reality. That is not wealth. That is not wealth because it
is only going to last a few years and then it will be gone. How can that be
wealth?
True wealth is eternal
wealth. True wealth is laying up treasure in heaven. That is all that really
matters.
