Behold, I
stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I
will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. Revelation 3.20
There us an old print
somewhere of an image of Jesus standing side by side the UN headquarters. He is
depicted knocking on the wall. The imagery is clear – Jesus is knocking on the
world’s door asking to be let in.
Obviously, the context here
is the Laodicean church with all of its sin and troubles and lukewarmness, but
the imagery is still clear. If God is knocking on the door of their hearts,
surely He does the same today. He is not willing that any should perish. They
saved of sin is death, but He came to pay that price on the cross and redeem us
through His blood. All we have to do is accept His gift and invite Him in.
This illustration is placed
here at the beginning of the book because Jesus is showing us at the beginning
of the book that He is standing there knocking all the way though even at the
worst of times.
And today He still knocks,
He still waits, and He still will come in to those who open the door.
