Walk circumspectly

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. – Ephesians 5.15-16

See then that you walk circumspectly. Be aware, look around at what is going on in this world. Not act in foolishness. Be wise. Use the time you have.

I love this phrase ‘walk circumspectly.’ It means just what it sounds like, to walk through life always on guard and looking around intently. It means to be aware of what is going on around us.

It is so easy to get caught off guard. There is always something just around the corner to catch us out and if we aren’t careful it will and the next thing we know we are in a real mess because we listened to the world.

We need to see all that is going on with the world not through social media or the television or any other source. We need to stay in the word of God so that we can see current events and news and politics through God’s eyes and we do that by spending time the word of God. Without that we can’t walk circumspectly. We will never understand what is going on around us.

And then we need to watch out. We have an enemy, who, like a roaring lion, is roaming the earth seeking whom he might devour.

Don’t go to sleep. Keep your heart with all diligence. Watch out. Don’t be caught out.
