"The Son Made Lower than Angels
For He has not put the world to come, of which we
speak, in subjection to angels. But one testified in a certain place, saying:
“What is man that You are mindful of him,
Or the son of man that You take care of him?
You have made him a little lower than the angels;
You have crowned him with glory and honor,
And set him over the works of Your hands.
You have put all things in subjection under his
feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is
not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him." - Hebrews 2:5-8
This old world can be a confusing place. It really is a
mess. As believers sometimes we wonder what in the world can be going on. We
read about how God is in control and all that - but it sure doesn't seem like
God is in control.
Yet, there it is in black and white - 'you have put all
things in subjection under his feet.' This same idea of all things being under
Jesus' feet also shows up in letters to the Corinthians and the Ephesians.
Everything is indeed under Jesus’ control and authority.
There is nothing that is not under His control.
Why then does bad seem to win sometimes? Why does evil seem
to prevail?
I think that the key is in the last part of the verse – ‘We
do not yet see all things put under him’
Just because we don't see it all the time doesn't mean it is
not true. When our children were younger they did not always see what we were
doing. They didn’t always understand. They didn’t know that we had things under
control.
Sure, it takes faith to understand how Jesus has it under
control, but He does. He already has it sorted. One day we will see it clearly –
for now we have to trust.
