Like a new born baby

Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. – 1 Peter 2.1-2

Because the word of God lives and abides forever it ought to impact us to ought to lay aside all the rubbish of the world like malice and deceit and envy and evil speaking. That stuff has no place in our lives, and yet it is the kind of thing that we seem to chase after. It is what our flesh yearns for.

But think about a new born baby. What does that baby yearn for? What does it scream for? Just think about what a baby is like when they are hungry. They cry out for milk. They scream for milk. They get red in the face for milk.

When is the last time that you or I desired the word of God like that? Have we ever thirsted for God’s word that way? I love my Bible, but I don’t think I’ve ever had that kind of craving.

Today, if we are looking for hope and direction, the only place to find it is in the living and enduring word of God. There is my hope. There is life. There is blessing. We ought to be seeking it like that little baby seeks its milk.
