Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient,
“The stone
which the builders rejected
Has become the
chief cornerstone,”
and
“A stone of
stumbling
And a rock of offense.”
They stumble,
being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. –
1 Peter 2.7-8
The world’s great dilemma,
and the reason that it is what is is pretty simple.
Jesus came as the chief
cornerstone. He is the only foundation that can keep us secure. People have two
choices about the Cornerstone. They can build on this sure foundation or they
can build their lives on sinking sand.
It ought to break our hearts
to see a whole world choosing to disobey the word of God and instead choose to
obey the world. To them, apart from the work of the Holy Spirit , Jesus is
going to be a stumbling block. He is going to get in the way of what they want
to do. He may have some good teachings, but really, take up your cross and
follow me? Who wants to do that?
But to those of us who
believe He is precious and following Him is a joy. We see the temporal and
eternal joys of following the One who loved us and gave His life for us and who
calls us His own special people.
Our task is to share with others the joy and the results of following Jesus so that they see the way, the trust, and the life instead of the stumbling block.
