Husbands,
likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to
the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your
prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3.7
Back all those years ago now
on our wedding day Mary took Romans 15.6 as our family verse – that you might
with one mind and one mouth glorify God. I am grateful for that passage because
my mind constantly goes back to it when I think about our home.
Here we have the reason why
that is so important. Mary and I are ‘heirs together of the grace of life.’
God has put us together and
created a very special team to serve Him. As we live out our marriage and our
lives we do so as joint heirs of the grace of God. As such we do all we can do
to serve together to glorify God and to show His grace to the world around us.
Our home is the perfect place to do that.
People watch our family to
see how it deals with hard times. What do they see? Do they see a feuding family,
or do they see a couple striving to live for God as joint heirs of eternity?
