By him
therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the
fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate
forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. –
Hebrews 13.15-16
There are a few little words
here about the kind of sacrifice that God is looking for today. He is no longer
looking for sacrifices or bull and goats. We are free from all that.
A sacrifice of continual praise
A sacrifice of thanks
A sacrifice of good works
A sacrifice of sharing
Because these are the things
that really please God.
Thanksgiving and praise are
here because both may very well involve me giving up my own wishes and desires.
It means that if I don’t get my way I will still praise God and I will still
thank Him.
Continual praise and give thanks
in all things go hand in hand. If I truly am trusting God I can do both. If I
insist on my way I’ll never get it right.
