Therefore the
Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a
Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. – Isaiah 7.14
Christmas Day again. The
wonderful day when we celebrate the Incarnate Christ. God in a crib. Deity
wrapped up in flesh. The immortal One taking on the form of mortality. Immanuel
– God with us.
On this special day we
choose to remember God’s great gift of eternal life. For God so loved the world
that He sent His only begotten Son. God chose to send His Son to live as one of
us and die for us and be raised again in victory over sin and death.
Who could ever dream of the
truth of ‘God amongst us?’ Why would God choose to come live with people who
would reject Him? Because mercy wins out over judgement.
Today we celebrate ‘God with
us.’ Not many phrases mean more than that. God chose to become a man in the
form of servant and dwell among us in a sin cursed world so He could show us
the way to heaven.
Not only that, He promised
to be with us. So on this Christmas Day so many years later He is still Immanuel – God
with us.
