Do not be
carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart
be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have
been occupied with them. –
Hebrews 13.9
We live in perilous times –
but then again Christians always have lived in perilous times. One of the most
perilous things we face is false teachings and doctrines that would rob us of
the full enjoyment of God’s grace. That kind of adding works can make salvation
a drudgery and it makes a waste of Jesus’ death on the cross.
This false teaching was one
that Paul had to fight all the time. The Jews of course were law keepers. It
was very hard for them to distance their newfound faith from their old time
practice.
So a lot them tried to add
works to faith, just like some folks do today. For some reason it is easier to
think that we can do something to get us into heaven. That just seems to appeal
to our flesh and our pride and sense of ‘I can do anything.’
Don’t let anyone rob us of
the gift of God’s amazing grace. All the manmade rules in the world can’t get
us saved or make us closer to God or make Him happier with us. It all because
of God’s grace.
Let us never be guilty of cheapening the cross/
