Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. - 1 John 4:7-11
Here it is again, back to
the basics.
Let us love one another.
Why do we have to be told
this so often why does the Word of God in general and John in particular have
to say it over and over and over again.
Maybe its because it is not
natural. We are not inclined to love each other like we are inclined to love
self. It is easy to love me.
Maybe it’s because Jesus said
that the Law can be summed up with this – love God and love each other.
I don’t think we can it too
much. I don’t think we can overdo. We love one another. It is how people know
we follow Christ. It is how we show God to the world. We didn’t love God first –
He loved us and sent Jesus to satisfy the sin debt that had to be paid. Mind
blowing truth!
And what are we called on to
do in response?
Love each other! How hard can that be?
