To them it was
revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things
which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel
to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look
into. – 1 Peter 1.12
Salvation is an amazing
thing. The prophets did not fully understand the gospel even though the spoke
of it.
Even more interesting to me
is that the angels desire to know more about it. Angels are a whole class of
created being given by God as ministering spirits. They are serving God,
worshipping Him, acting as messengers of God before the Bible was complete, and
ministering to us. They are not glorified people in heaven.
Yet this special class of
being doesn’t really understand salvation. They rejoice every time someone gets
saved. But they don’t really understand and they desire to know more about.
What a wonderful gift the
gospel is. It is given to us, his flawed creation, so that we can be restored
to Him through the precious blood of Christ.
It is such a wonderful gift that
the prophets preached before the fully knew it and the angels wish they knew
more.
