And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. -Revelation 22:17
Water is a constant theme in
the word of God. Isaiah wrote of the merchant calling out in the marketplace ‘everyone who is thirsty come and
drink freely.’ Jesus offers the woman at the well everlasting water from which
she will never thirst. New Jerusalem will have a river of fresh water flowing
through. And here we read of the water
of life flowing freely for eternity.
Water is the most precious
of all resources. We can go a long time without food. We can go days or even
weeks without eating.
But we can’t do without
water. After a single day our bodies are seriously affected. After 2-3 days our
bodies will shut down. That is why it is such a precious commodity. We also
can’t survive long spiritually without spiritual water. We become weak and dry
and useless without it.
The day is coming when we will all be able to be refreshed by the water of life constantly. We will never be thirsty again.
