But you have come
to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an
innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the
firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits
of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the
blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel - Hebrews 12:22-24
Earlier we read about the
need for the church to meet together here on earth. I think that it is a
forerunner and maybe important because it is a picture of what the whole church
will do one day in heaven.
At the end of the race we
are going to have a great celebration. The church, the general assembly of the
firstborn, in the presence of the angels, registered in heaven, to meet with
God and with Jesus His Son.
I can’t even begin to imagine the joy of that day. We all get to meet all the
church that has gone on before. It’s a wonderful thing to go to church now, but
can you imagine this church meeting!
Here we have the angels, the
saints, God the Father, and God the Father meeting the presence of the Holy
Spirit. What a day that will be! The race is over, the battle is won, and we
can celebrate the victory together.
Our missing church today makes
me long for that day even more!
