Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to
thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and
hath had compassion on thee. –
Mark 5.19
Pretty early on in His ministry Jesus set up a way of
getting His message out to the world. Here a man who had just had a demon exorcised
asked Jesus if he could be a disciple of Jesus. Jesus said ‘no, but I want you
to go and tell your friends what great things Jesus had done and how much love
He had shown.
There could not be a more simple way to get the word
out. It is a personal message one person shares with others. Personal contact
between family and friends is the most simple and natural way for news to be
shared.
What better way for us to share Christ with others than
to tell them the great things He has done for us? It is a scary thing because
we fear the response of others, but when I miss that chance I miss a great opportunity
to be an effective witness for Him. It is not only ‘for God so loved the world’
but it is ‘for God so loved me’ that makes the difference in our witness.
As we ‘go into all the world and preach the gospel’
lets me sure that we tell the word about ‘the great things He has done for us.’
