And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the
builders rejected is become the head of the corner: This was the Lord's doing,
and it is marvellous in our eyes? –
Mark 12.10-11
It must have been terribly confusing for the disciples
when Jesus was talking about His fate – that He would be crucified, die, be
buried, and rise again. Here He predicts that He is going to the cornerstone
that the builders are going to reject.
Though it may have made no sense to the disciples Jesus
said ‘this is the Lord’s doing, it is a marvellous work.’ They didn’t full
realise it yet, but the prophecy of Messiah was being fulfilled before their
very eyes. God was doing a wonderful work that they couldn’t see.
I wonder how often we are in the midst of God doing a
great work that we cannot see. What is God doing in our lives that seems like a
dreadful thing today, but is actually a marvellous work?
God works is always marvellous – even if we don’t get
it.
