The hidden treasures

For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. – Colossians 2.1-3

A few of the things Paul mentions here he talks about in his other letters - be encouraged, be knit together in love, and have a full assurance of understanding.

But I like what he adds here - in God all the hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found. This reminds me of one of the things God said to Job when Job was complaining about his lot in life.

"Have you entered the treasury of snow, Or have you seen the treasury of hail, Job 38.22

God asked Job how much he knew about the the hidden secrets that God knows about. There are things hidden in the mind of God that we don't know anything about. The details of the creation of the snow flakes are marvlous, but we don't know them.

Even more than that wonderful detail of creation God has hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

All of the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in our God. There is nothing out there that God does no know. There is no wisdom that is not His wisdom.

And the marvellous truth is that God reveals things about Himself in His word. He wants us to know more about what He has for us.

James writes that if we lack wisdom to understand what we are going through we are to ask God, because all hidden treasures of wisdom are known by Him.

He knowledge is complete and absolute - there is nothing God does not know.

Why then is it that far too often we only go to Him as a last resort when everything else fails? When all of the hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge are in God why don't we just go to Him first?
