Rooted

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. – Colossians 2.6-7

This picks up from where we left off yesterday. It gives the answer to how we keep ourselves from being deceived.

There are some out there today who will tell us that we don't need to worry so much about doctrines and teaching and the like. There are even some who even say that in today's world we need to be flexible in our doctrine. If your doctrine is too rigid we are only going to get hurt if we keep slamming up against it. Instead, our doctrine should be flexible - kind of like a trampoline.

This whole idea of 'trampoline doctrine' is quite a concept. That kind of foundation provides no stability, no confidence, and no way to avoid error. If we use trampoline theology we really don't have a leg to stand on.

But we do have a rock solid foundation to our faith. It will allow us to stand no matter what the opposition or how persuasive the words.

Since you have received Christ as Lord walk in Him
Be rooted in Him
Be built up in Him
Be established in the faith
Abound in thanksgiving

But noitce a phrase there that lets us know the importance of doctrine. 'These are the things you have been taught.'

It is vital that we teach sound doctrine. It is imperitive that we give people something to stand on. We cannot stand without a firm rooting in Christ.

Lets be sure that our grounding is secure in Christ so that we are not easily moved.
