Death is swallowed up

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. – 1 Corinthians 15.54

Resurrection Day is upon us again.  Every Sunday is a day to remember the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, but this one Sunday is a day we have chosen to especially focus on this most important of all events.

It’s hard to know what passage to use on this day. The resurrection is so key that it almost dominates scripture. I prayed about where to go, and kept coming back to this marvellous truth – ‘death is swallowed up in victory.’

Death is crushed to death
Death has no more dominion over us
Death has no more sting
Death, the last and greatest enemy, is destroyed

All of this because Jesus conquered death.

On this Easter morning, as we gather in our churches and fellowships and assemblies, let us all rejoice that He is risen, death is conquered, and He has empowered us to live a new life in Him.

The victory is ours! Praise God!
