And they that kept them
fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was
befallen to the possessed of the devils. And, behold, the whole city came out
to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart
out of their coasts. – Matthew 8.33-34
It seems like
folks did not know what to think about Jesus. He had just done a bunch of
miracles and had exorcised a whole legion of demons from a man. He demons left
him and went and possessed a herd of pigs. Then the pigs committed mass
suicide.
The whole city
came out to Jesus, spoke to Him and ‘besought Him that He would depart out of
their coasts.’
In other words – ‘get lost Jesus.’
In other words – ‘get lost Jesus.’
That’s a pretty
shocking thing to hear. After all he had done how could they say ‘get lost?’
I wish we could
take that attitude of superiorly, but I think we all can have a ‘get lost Jesus’
attitude sometimes. It happens when Jesus steps in to the things we really hold
precious and don’t want to deal with. What do we do then Jesus steps in to
those things in our lives that we really don’t want bothered with? What about
those little pet sins that we aren’t ready to set aside? What about those times
where we don’t trust Jesus even though He promises that He knows what we need?
Aren’t we saying
‘get lost Jesus?’
