Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way,
walk in it," Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to
the left. You will also defile the
covering of your images of silver, And the ornament of your moulded images of
gold. You will throw them away as an unclean thing; You will say to them,
"Get away!" – Isaiah 30v21,22
This is just a neat little titbit to think about. You know that little
voice that you hear when you are in a situation where you are not sure what to
do? You know, the voice that says ‘Go this way’?
I often ‘wish’ that there was a more Biblical explanation for that
little voice. Is it the Holy Spirit? Is it my conscience?
I don’t know for sure, but here Isaiah speaks to the people about what
to do when faced with opposition and living in a world that does not follow God
but instead is full of false gods and idolatry.
‘When you wander from the path you are supposed to be on you will hear a
word behind you saying ‘This is the right way, follow it.’ If we follow that we
are going to cast off all the worldly coverings that we are drawn to and say to
them ‘Get away from me!’
Now, don’t go about basing your decisions on voices in your head - that
could get you in big trouble. I think though that folks who are trying to
follow the Lord know the voice I am talking about. We know and we know it is
the right thing to do. The problem is doing it.
