Who is wise? Let him understand these things. Who is
prudent? Let him know them. For the ways of the LORD are right; the righteous
walk in them, But transgressors stumble in them. – Hosea 14v9
The way of
the Lord is not always easy, but the ways of the Lord are always right. We don’t
always understand how it is true and sometimes we don’t get it, but God’s ways
are right – full stop.
Hosea had
been through a great trial of his faith. God had called him to an impossible
task. We might ask ourselves how this could possibly be God’s way, and if it is
how is it right?
Who could
have thought that God’s plan for Hosea was right? Surely Hosea must have
questioned the direction God had for him. But he did it. He did what God wanted
him to do and at the end he said ‘The ways of the Lord are right, and the
righteous walk in them.’
It is not
always easy for us to see God’s way as right. Sometimes God way leads through
suffering and sacrifice. Sometimes it leads through difficulties and even
death. Sometimes it is confusing and full of conflict.
Our problem is
pretty simple – we don’t know everything. We can’t see how these situations are
going to affect eternity. All we see is right here and right now. We don’t have
the mind of God. We have finite intelligence and wisdom. God has it all.
The question
is whether or not we have the faith to walk with the righteous in the right
ways of the Lord. Only we can answer that.
